Ed Hirth has been fascinated with art since first
seeing
the dynamic works of Greek and Roman artists
and the painting and sculpture of the great masters
of the Renaissance. The structure, forma and storytelling
was a natural attraction and led to the admiration
of contemporary artists from N. C. Wyeth to the illustrators
of the last 100 years. Anatomy and life drawing
have always been of special interest in pursuing
his own personal vision of form and art.
While working as an air-brush artist, retoucher,
illustrator, graphic designer and photographer,
he completed his degree in Fine Arts from
Arizona State University in 1974.
On scholarship for post graduate studies at the
Art Center
College of Design in Pasadena, California, he was commissioned
by 'City of Memphis Magazine' to create the two illustrations
of Elvis Presley presented here.
Over his thirty-two years of experience, Ed has
taught
life drawing and illustration and created artworks
ranging from numerous portraits in nationwide public
and private collections to backgrounds
for the original "The Lord of the Rings" and
a first place Cannes Film Festival Award for
Richard Williams Productions, Los Angeles/London.
He is noted for his diverse work in publishing,
the New York Times, Garrett Aerospace, and,
more recently, murals for LAX International,
San Diego and Long Beach Airports
and international corporations.
Ed Hirth currently resides in Arizona, with his
wife, Barbara
and their ever present Labrador, Indy.
